So far this series the Anaheim Ducks are 3 for 5 on the power play, the Edmonton Oilers are -1 for 6.
So it isn’t any wonder why the Oilers lost Game 2 of the series. Connor McDavid has been held pointless for two straight games, and looked to be injured midway through the game. Dickinson never drew into the lineup due to injury. The fourth line was the only part of the squad to ever gain momentum.
Both squads managed to pot a goal each in the first period, Leon Draisaitl broke the ice with the Ducks’ Cutter Gauthier returning the favor four minutes later. The Anaheim Ducks dominated the second period again, and finished the period with a 4-3 lead that Edmonton desperately tried to claw out of.
Dickinson’s replacement Josh Samanski scored a wicked goal to tie the game midway through the third, but unfortunately the Ducks regained the lead after Mattias Ekholm took a completely unforced icing call, and Cutter Gauthier quickly scored on the deflated Oilers defense.
Edmonton looked exhausted all game; it was like watching the finals against the Panthers in 2025, but it’s only Game 2.
Not looking great.
Injuries are piling up, and the special team situation is rapidly spiraling out of control. The Ducks are scoring on 60% of their powerplay chances. Edmonton has never scored on their powerplay. The only goal that’s come from their powerplay went towards the Ducks. For a team that’s historically leaned on goals from Connor McDavid, and the powerplay, they’re getting absolutely none of either right now.
Hitting the panic button in a 1-1 series tie is probably dramatic, but if this level of effort continues the Oilers might have a long summer to prepare for the 2026-2027 Season.
