The Oilers played well in a tight low scoring affair; they managed to hold off the Dallas offence for most of the game, but unfortunately gave up a touchdown in the fourth quarter. They managed to score a field goal to get some hope, but it was all they could muster and they fell to the Stars who added an extra point with the safety.
Oh wait a second, this wasn’t a football game.
Edmonton left the first period down 4-0, down the second period 6-1, and finished the game down a disgusting 8-3.
The Oilers are playing like they want their coach fired and half the team to be traded. From back-to-back cup finals to getting blown out 9-1 and 8-3 in the span of two weeks. The most entertaining part of the night was that Jack Michaels blew out his vocal cords after celebrating Connor Clattenburg’s first NHL goal.
Stuart Skinner saved 4 of 8 shots faced in the first period, and Pickard came in for relief with a marginally better effort, but the team dug themselves a canyon.
There really was nothing positive about tonight’s game, and for a team that has Stanley Cup aspirations, it was simply pathetic – especially after getting blown out by Colorado on home ice in the exact same fashion. Is it too much to ask that you don’t make 18,000 fans waste their hard earned money to watch the road squad blow you completely out of the water?
You simply cannot be getting blown out by potential playoff matchups every other week.
The officiating was also horribly one sided but it’s not even worth talking about when the team gave Dallas a 4-0 lead to start the game.
Are games like these eroding the teams confidence? Connor McDavid doesn’t seem to think so. “This team still has confidence that we’ll figure it out. I know it doesn’t look like it, but we have confidence.”
It certainly doesn’t look like it.
